NetLink Remote is a network extension that allows you to use AppleTalk over a modem. When you connect with NetLink Remote, you can do anything that is possible when on a local AppleTalk network. You can use AppleShare to work with remote files, play AppleTalk only games like Marathon and F/A-18 Hornet, or use any other software that supports AppleTalk networking.
NetLink Remote was written as an alternative to Apple's ARA software which was too expensive for most individuals and too slow for demanding games like Marathon. NetLink Remote's high speed modem protocol has been optimized for realtime games and in most cases is much faster than the built in modem support provided by some games. NetLink is also great for managing files on a remote system. Using AppleShare, the remote volume can show up on your desktop and be used like a local drive.

Limitations
• NetLink Remote does not have the ability to route network packets to other network hardware. This means that when NetLink is selected as your network type, you will lose access to any other networking resources available on other networks. This would include any LocalTalk printers or file servers on LocalTalk or EtherTalk. This limitation is only imposed while you are using NetLink Remote.
• Modems that use Apple's Express modem software, which include some internal modems, and the Geoport Telecom Adapter can be used, but are not suitable for playing realtime games.
How do I get started?
• Before you install NetLink Remote, I would suggest that you read the "NetLink License" document first. When you run NetLink for the first time, you will be asked if you agree to the terms of the license.
• After you have read the license, open the file "NetLink Setup Guide" for information on how to install and use NetLink Remote.
• Rembember, NetLink Control has an AppleGuide help file. If you ever need to know something, just open it from the help menu.
